First Edition. Sidgwick & Jackson, London 1939. 238 pp.

"Mr. Carrington, who spent the greater part of his early youth in New Zealand and has also lived in Australia, has a real knowledge of those parts of the world in which Cook´s life-work lay. He has studied on the spot most of the places at which Cook landed and this coupled with his first-hand knowledge of Maori lore has enabled him to describe Cook´s work and adventures from an entirely fresh and realistic point of view." (from the front flap)

Particularly worth mentiong is that the present copy was personally chosen by Queen Mary (wife of George VI) as a gift to be presented to a leaver from a school which she was patron (see attached letter from the headmaster of Queen Mary's Grammar School Walsall and the gift bookplate on the front paste-down " HRM Queen Mary Prize for History".

Book is in very good condition with minor bumping to the corners and spine ends. Price-clipped dustjacket has a picturesque drawing of Cook's ship HMS Resolution on the front pane andl is in very good condition except some toning to the spine, little signs of shelf-wear and miniscule chipping to spine ends.
